Plans change, Plan B

Things have changed a bit in the last 2 weeks. It has been an emotional rollercoaster but it looks like we are not going to Singapore as planned in early Oct. to meet Sweetpea when she comes in from the Philippines. Her first family decided that they wanted to have her stay with them for a few days to get her tested for TB. They had visions of an international incident akin to that fellow who went to Europe with TB to get married and came back and is now held in isolation somewhere in Denver Colorado.

After talking it over with our lawyer he strongly suggested that it would be to our benefit to have them run some other tests and also provide her with some basic medical care before we fly all the way there. So right now the tests will be run on the 8th and we will get the results back on the 10th of Oct. If for some aberrant reason she does have active tuberculosis she will not be allowed to fly for the next 9 months anyway, and all the plans get scrubbed. She would need to be medically treated for those 9 months and then cleared of active TB before she would be allowed to board a plane.

The biggest question is what makes them think of this? We don't know. They have not had contact with her over the past 6 months in order to suspect that she is symptomatic. If they were told that she was symptomatic they are both doctors and would suspect active TB right away and not delay in getting her treatment, we hope. We only have our own speculations and those are not profitable to dwell on. We do know that God is the God of the universe and it is in him we trust.

So the plan as it is vaguely formed at the moment is that on the 7th she will return from the Philippines to her first family in Singapore. Her Filipina caretaker, Carmelita, will stay on with the family to care for her. She will get medical attention on the 8th and tests will be run. On the 10th they will get the test results and depending on the outcome we will hopefully be booking tickets to Singapore for the following week. That would put us in Singapore around the 18th of Oct we think. We don't know at this point what the game plan will be from there. We will have to keep you posted.
